Press release
New edition of Forum Bosnae magazine - ˝Twelves essays on the economic crisis in Bosnia and Herzegovina˝
(Editor-in-chief Rusmir Mahmutćehajić)
International Forum Bosnia announces the publication of
Volume No. 47 of its journal, Forum Bosnae.
The twelve authors treat important aspects of the current economic crisis in
Bosnia and Herzegovina and its links to political and economic conditions in the
country and globally. From these twelve essays, a clear common message emerges,
a warning to us all, but particularly to political decision makers at all levels
of government.
A spectre of crisis is haunting the world and has ensnared
Bosnia and Herzegovina. The crisis is dominating the headlines and the attention
of political and business leaders worldwide. The bad news just keeps coming.
There is, however, little in depth analysis of the causes and nature of the
crisis, even in the major developed countries. It is enough to refer to
recession or depression, focusing on the financial crisis and its 'impact' on
industry.
This is the first crisis of globalisation, in its social,
economic, and political totality. Analysis does not approach it from this global
perspective, however. Moreover, the economy of Bosnia and Herzegovinia was
already in structural crisis before the economic crisis, due to its lack of
planned development, incompetent government structures, and political
interference in economic decision making. This produced inertia in economic
development, as major structural problems were ignored (massive public spending,
failed privatisation, dependence on foreign capital for development, etc.). The
global crisis has just “pulled back the veils” hiding our domestic crises, while
opening up a large number of other problems, as in other countries in
transition.
The political classes and government institutions in Bosnia
and Herzegovina have failed to respond to the economic crisis in a timely or
serious fashion. Their irresponsibility is now revealed as a threat to very
future of the country.
This special issue of the
Forum Bosnae journal is entitled
The Economic Crisis in Bosnia and Herzegovina: the
Beginning of the End or the End of the Beginning
(ed. Žarko Papić). It brings together essays by leading Bosnian and
Herzegovinian economists of the older and younger generations, in an attempt to
furnish a grounded analysis of the crisis, its causes, and its consequences, and
particularly those aspects of most importance to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Presenting their analyses of the impact of the crisis at home and aboad, from
their different thematic points of view, the authors confront us with an
analysis of the world we live in and the demands of the 'new order' for
development. It is a mark of their analytical seriousness and its basis in the
facts how much much of the underlying truth about the Bosnian and Herzegovinian
economy they manage ot reveal, a truth 'no one wants to hear,' least of all the
political elite.
This issue includes essays by Irena Jankulov, Samira
Nuhanović, Fikret Čauševića, Damir Miljević, Rajko Tomaš, Sabina Pačariz, Orhan
Nikšić, Ante Domazet, Amir Hadžiomeragić, Kadrija Hodžić, Vjekoslav Domljan, and
Žarko Papić.
This special issue of Forum
Bosnae is the sixth volume of International Forum
Bosnia's economic series.
No. 48 is 253 pages long. It is available from the IFB
